Like accountants, attorneys, or other professionals, you don’t need a specific education or degree in order to start your business. Unlike nurses, doctors, or other professionals, there really isn’t any government-mandated minimum requirements as to what you must learn or how you must be trained. You can be an administrative assistant, a bookkeeper, or even a receptionist, depending on what skills you are most comfortable with and what business you want to start. But you can also be an HR specialist, a business analyst, or even a recruiter.

You might think that these would all be at the same level, but they aren’t. The majority of the positions in business that require administrative support aren’t performed by HR managers. Instead, they are performed by business analysts, business managers, and recruiters. A typical recruiter will conduct interviews and evaluate applicants before offering them employment. Hiring managers are responsible for hiring the best employees and helping them land the best positions. Because of this, they will likely require an HR manager degree.

If you are thinking about pursuing an entry-level position in a business where you are not going to be involved with human resource management, then you won’t need an HR specialist degree. You may want to consider an MBA, however. An MBA typically requires a year or two of graduate studies at a business college, which is typically followed by a year or more of graduate employment at an accredited business school. An MBA will require you to take general education courses in business and will typically involve interning or working with an experienced manager as an apprentice.

If you’re interested in getting into administration, you will need at least a bachelor’s degree, although some jobs even require additional schooling. The bachelor’s degree required for most administration positions is typically a Master’s degree, but you can opt to get educated through an online program. The curriculum for taking an online program will be roughly the same as if you were attending a traditional business school.

You can also choose to go straight to a Master’s degree if you don’t mind having more job duties than are necessary for your Bachelor’s degree. Human resources specialists can typically obtain Master’s degrees in a number of different fields, including psychology, sociology, marketing, business administration, and education. These specialists may also choose to get certified to teach certain courses or to become a teacher of special education.

Most career paths within HR require some type of certification, although there are some exceptions. Most states require certification to become an HR manager or HR specialist, and some require certification for specific positions, such as those in elder care, employment discrimination, and workplace safety. There are also several certifications that can be acquired by those who are interested in working as human resources managers, including the Certified Human Resources Specialist (CHRS) certification, which is usually offered by the International Association of HR Professionals. Both CHRS and the IAAHRP certification are nationally recognized.

On the other hand, there are not a lot of job opportunities for managers in human resources unless you already have a Master’s degree. Because there are fewer openings for these positions, it’s important to make sure that you have what it takes to get hired for them. One way to do this is to go back to school and earn your graduate degree in human resources. Many graduate students choose to go directly to work in the field after earning their bachelor’s degrees, so they are already well-versed in most aspects of the human resources field and have had some work experience. By working in a graduate program on human resources management, students will learn about the current trends and developments in this field, along with research methods that are currently being used to recruit and hire human resource professionals.

When you go back to school, be prepared to take on more than just your coursework. Graduate students often find themselves taking on several different roles within their organization, so it helps to know which skills you’ll be bringing with you once you land a job as a specialist. Human resource managers need a wide range of skills in order to do their jobs well, including communication skills, leadership skills, team building skills, good listening skills, and effective coaching skills. Many specialists are also great writers, so you might want to consider writing articles or reports about your department or providing business management training to your staff members. This combination of skills will set you apart from your colleagues, so don’t hesitate to take this path when you finally get the position you’ve been dreaming about.
