The Philosophy of Leadership

A good leadership philosophy is generally a structured manner to leading people. Usually, good leadership philosophies usually contain the following elements:

Theory. Leadership philosophies usually include some theories on how leaders should lead, how the organization should operate, or what the purpose of the organization is. The theories will differ among different leaders and organizations.

Personality. A leader should have a unique personality that is unique to him/her. Leadership is about motivating people with an inspiring personality.

Vision. All good leadership philosophies have some sort of vision on the vision of the organization. Some people do not have enough vision, so they should learn how to develop their vision and work hard in creating it.

Principles. There are certain principles that govern how leaders lead. These principles can be broken down into three categories: rules, values, and guidelines. Each of these categories has several sub-categories.

Guidelines. Leadership philosophies also have a set of guidelines. Guidelines might be rules, ethics, and rules of behavior. These guidelines are usually made to help members of the organization to do their jobs well.

Mission and vision. Some of these philosophies will include a mission statement, a vision statement, and a vision statement.

The above four elements make up a philosophy. It can be very complex and there are many philosophies to choose from. Each leader must decide what is important in his/her philosophy and then write it down.
