July 2022: Numerous lockdowns last year saw a spike in interest in home dining with ShelfNow, Europe’s first intelligent B2B online marketplace, reveals it has witnessed a 25% spike in sales of home cooking essentials for the big night in on its platform. Furthermore, Mintel statistics reveal that many Brits were pleasantly surprised as to how enjoyable it can be preparing for a big night in. In fact, more than four in ten respondents revealed that in 2022 they would like to improve their cooking skills. As the cost of living crisis takes hold, consumers are choosing to spend less, with many individuals cooking from scratch more often and choosing to have a ‘big night in’. ShelfNow shares insight on the top artisan products for recreating a restaurant meal from home.

Seasonings

Currently, ShelfNow stocks cupboard essentials which cover a broad variety of cuisines from Middle Eastern-inspired recipes to Caribbean, Indian and Italian. The online marketplace has seen increased demand for Middle Eastern flavours, with the most popular seasoning currently available on the platform being Jerusalem Tahini, a staple for many Middle Eastern and even some Mediterranean dishes. Jerusalem Tahini is a favourite for ShelfNow buyers and in particular, the producer Jida is a popular brand as it is an all-natural, organic, vegan producer specialising in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean spice blends, which caters to the current demand for healthy food.

Condiments

For consumers that love a freshly homemade salad, vinegar is a great affordable yet effective way to achieve high-end dining at home, with studies also revealing the benefits of vinegar consumption on overall health. ShelfNow reports that Acetaia Sereni’s Agrodolce Bianco (white) Balsamic Vinegar is the most popular condiment on its platform. Awarded ‘Best Italian Product of 2019’, the vinegar has a fruity aromatic flavour which makes it ideal for everyday use, in everything from salads to marinades. The vinegar also offers health benefits due to it being infused with rosemary, which supports digestion and acts as an antiseptic and stimulant.

Ready-made cooking sauces

Another simple way to achieve lavish dining on a budget whilst at home is with ready-made cooking sauces, of which ShelfNow has seen a spike in sales of 30%. In particular, Pico Sauces’ Varanasi Tamarind Chutney, Punjabi Ketchup and Nagar Ghost Pepper are some of the bestselling options available on the marketplace. Pico Sauces are artisan producers of alternative, modern and experimental cooking sauces and condiments which offer a spin on traditional Indian cuisine.

Cooking oils

As interest in cooking from home has seen a sharp increase, ShelfNow shares that sales of cooking oils have risen by 21%. The digital wholesaler stocks a wide range of 15 different types of cooking oils with the classic extra virgin olive oil leading the way in popularity as sales of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Loukakos Estate in the Laconia region of southern Greece continue to grow. Buyers can also choose from a variety of infused cooking oils such as garlic and chilli-infused olive oil or hemp, chia and black seed oil.
