GlobalConnect reaches milestone as its fiber network passes 100,000 km across Northern Europe

GlobalConnect’s interconnected fiber network has reached 100,000 km, covering the Nordics and northern Germany. With this, GlobalConnect continues to future-proof the Nordics as an arena for global tech investments and cements its position as one of the leading digital infrastructure providers in the region, catering to enterprises as well as private consumers Only in Q1, its footprint expanded with 6,8%, including assets from the acquisition of Telenor SE communication operator Open Universe.

GlobalConnect continues its rapid acceleration of digitizing Northern Europe. With the ongoing deployment of the mega capacity fiber cable from Luleå to Berlin and with more than 2500 km of new fiber optics put in the ground during this year’s first quarter, GlobalConnect’s 100,000 km fiber is the largest interconnected network in the region. With an ongoing expansion, and the acquisition of Open Universe completed, more regions across the Nordics are being offered the benefits of high-capacity connectivity services. As a result, the group’s FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) customer base now amounts to 650,000, which is a 54% increase compared to Q4 2021.

“Today marks a great milestone for GlobalConnect. It’s the result of our ever-continuing efforts to digitize our region, which we have been perusing the last twenty years. We are daily out in the field deploying new fiber optics in the ground, connecting society with services and infrastructure that will last for generations. In Q1, we continued to leverage the strong momentum we had from 2021, expanding our fiber network in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as well as in our newer market Germany”, says Martin Lippert, CEO GlobalConnect Group.
