Businesses are always looking for ways to make their company more efficient. Whether it is finding faster machines, streamlining processes or implementing strategies to keep staff on track, efficiency is a benefit to all aspects of a company.
If you are a business that relies on staff to keep the company going, then here are some tips to help improve their time management.
Importance of time management
Proper time management is all about walking the fine line between completing tasks to a high quality and not spending loads of time doing them. It is estimated that just under one-third (30%) of a UK worker’s day is lost to tasks that appear productive but do not actually contribute to the company’s goals.
It is also believed by workers that productivity is measured on visibility, such as being online when working from home or hours spent working in the office. This thought process can also lead to performative work being prioritised.
HR systems
When you are managing people, a lot of their enquiries can be surrounding personnel issues. Topics such as holidays, sick leave and working hours are all HR questions.
By implementing a central People First platform all of this information is easily accessible to all employees. It will reduce the amount of time spent by the HR department, managers and employees searching for this information.

You can also allow employees to update important details such as addresses, contact details and emergency contacts on this portal, which will allow accurate information to be kept at all times.
Delegate work
As an individual, you may find the thought of delegating tasks to others awkward, but delegation is an important factor in effective time management.
You should encourage your team to communicate both within the team and with their managers about their workload. It may naturally happen that people with higher workloads will delegate to their colleagues, but it often doesn’t.
By encouraging an open dialogue, your staff will feel able to let you know when the workload is unmanageable. By reassigning tasks, you can ensure nothing gets ignored and everything is completed in a timely fashion.
Track time
If you do opt to track your employees’ time, make sure you emphasise it is not them you are tracking. Instead, it is a way to see if particular clients or tasks are taking longer than they should. You can then learn from this and make changes as needed.
You could choose to start a daily tracker where people note what client they have been working on that day and the time they have spent. This is a great way to see over a month how much time the client needs, therefore whether they are a profitable client or not.
