The Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) today announced the winners of the IRMS Awards 2022 which recognise excellence, innovation, and dedication to the sector. The awards were presented on Monday 16th May at a Gala Dinner, held during the annual IRMS Conference in Glasgow. Seven prestigious awards were presented including the Information and Records Management Professional of the Year 2022, Team of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Information and Records Management Professional of the Year 2022 is Emily Overton, also known as RMGirl and the Managing Director of Records Management Girl Consulting Ltd. Emily specialises in Information Asset Registers, Offsite Storage Contracts and Contents, BS10008 and Scanning, Retention Schedules and Policies, GDPR Compliance, Electronic Document and Records Management, Systems Implementation, Contract Management, Information Risk and Data Audits.

The winner of the Team of the Year Award is the Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) team at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Their Information Governance programme introduced a new ‘compliance by design’ architecture in Microsoft 365; the programme was also about developing the confidence and technical capability of the team itself. The Innovation of the Year Award goes to Lancashire County Council for their COVID-19 Records Management Project, while Act Now Training have won the Supplier of the Year Award for the second year running.

The recipient of the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award is Dr Elizabeth Lomas, an Associate Professor in Information Governance at University College London. Dr Lomas has worked across a diverse range of organisations including banks, charities, museums, private estates and the Royal Household, and has been involved in a number of government-led initiatives to review and revise information rights law and compliance standards including in data protection, freedom of information and information security.

The Author of the Year 2022 is Gillian Mapstone, Head of Records and Archives Engagement, National Records of Scotland, who spoke about the same topic as her winning article – The Impact of COVID 19 on the Recordkeeping Sector in Scotland – during the IRMS Conference just hours before receiving her award. And finally, the IRMS awarded the Alison North Award for New Professionals to data protection consultant Claire Archibald.

Our award winners are nominated by their peers and as such are flag bearers for the industry, highlighting the vital work we undertake as information and records management professionals.”
