Revolutionising work with AI: boosting productivity & redefining the workweek

When we look back at the invention of the steam engine, it was an innovation that sparked an evolution in productivity and lifestyle. In a world where people worked nonstop, seven days a week, machinery brought relief. The five-day workweek was born. Today, we find ourselves on the brink of another monumental shift as artificial intelligence steps into the spotlight.

At the beginning of 2023, I, along with many others, took an interest in the realm of AI and when ChatGPT was released I decided to explore what it had to offer, and what I discovered was nothing short of a revelation. Within two months of diving deep into ChatGPT, Midjourney and many of the other new AI tools, I found that I could slice a day and a half of my work week.

ChatGPT was the fastest-adopted technology in history, with 38% of all white-collar workers experimenting with it. I needed my team to jump on this ship fast. In just two weeks, ChatGPT had permeated every aspect of Mindvalley. When I started to teach my employees how to use AI tools, the outcome was mind-blowing and they reported up to a 50% boost in productivity and creative output. There are so many things that we do at Mindvalley – from writing emails to notification communications to even coming up with creative ideas for social media – that are now done by human beings richly supported by AI.

In addition to the massive boost in productivity and creativity that AI can bring, there’s another side to the story that holds particular interest for entrepreneurs and businesses. As I delved deeper into AI and its implications, I realised that it also presented a significant opportunity to streamline business operations and costs, especially in the realm of hiring. By automating routine tasks, AI can minimize manpower requirements and trim hiring costs by up to 40%.

In our company, we conducted a compelling case study that demonstrated how AI implementation led to a remarkable 40% reduction in hiring costs. While some may worry about job disappearance, it is important to remember that AI isn’t eliminating jobs; it’s streamlining work processes. Employees become more capable of accomplishing tasks and seizing opportunities for innovation. I firmly believe that the coming decade will be one of the most exciting periods in human history. As AI continues to augment our capabilities, we will witness a shift from the traditional five-day workweek to a more fulfilling three-and-a-half-day workweek.

The extra time will allow employees to nurture their personal lives, spend quality moments with family, and engage in learning and personal growth. Contrary to fears of AI alienating us from our humanity, I am optimistic that it will do just the opposite. Rather than having virtual reality goggles isolate us, AI will enable us to be more human, as it liberates us from the burdens of excessive work hours. Currently, the average working adult in the Western world devotes around 70% of their waking hours to work. However, with AI’s efficiency, this percentage will significantly reduce, and individuals will spend more time being human.

With the exponential rise in technology and AI at the forefront of this transformation, between 2022 and 2026, we will witness as much change as we did in the 100 years between 1919 and 1925. AI’s purpose is to help entrepreneurs, C-level executives, or knowledge workers, prepare for this rapidly evolving world.  Embracing AI can provide a significant edge in the workplace, while ignoring it may lead to obsolescence and even the loss of businesses or careers. It’s important to not fear AI but to embrace it with a growth mindset. If you become part of the top 0.1% of AI users, you’ll gain a competitive advantage comparable to a university degree.

In conclusion, AI is the future of the workplace, and those who embrace it and learn to master its capabilities will have a considerable advantage. By utilising AI effectively, we can increase productivity, create innovative products, and ultimately improve how we work and live. As long as we approach AI with the right consciousness and understanding, we can harness its potential to benefit humanity significantly.
